Dorothy House has supported some of my closest friends during the last weeks and months of their lives. I  also received support from their team when I was diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2012 but was fortunate not to need their ongoing help. I have seen firsthand the incredible work that they do with those facing the very worst news and how they support the families that will be left behind. 

 

I am supporting Dorothy House by donating 10% of the commission that I earn when I book a holiday for you, so that we can help to ensure that their vital work can continue. I will also be running or taking part in various events to raise much needed funds.

Dorothy House provides palliative and end of life care to adults (18+) and their families. They create individual care journeys which start at diagnosis and continue with bereavement support for family members, carers and children.

 

Dorothy means “gift of god” and the tulip symbolises their compassion and caring.

Set in a wonderful location in Winsley Wiltshire, their incredible Inpatient Unit team provide care to 10 residents and outpatients, whilst its community based palliative care teams look after approx. 3000 patients across an 800sq mile catchment area which covers Bath & North East Somerset (BaNES), parts of Wiltshire and Somerset. That’s just over half of the people in our area with a palliative care need.

They provide end of life care free of charge and only receive 20% of their funding from the government, relying on the generosity of charitable donations and sales from their charity shops to fund their invaluable work.

 

£50 can fund 2 hours of care from one of their Hospice at Home carers during the night, enabling the patient to stay in the comfort of their own home at the end of their life.

£100 can fund 3 hours of a specialist nurses time caring for one in residence patient.
